So as my fused glass journey continues, I was lucky enough to secure a place on the making it big kitchen splashback course with an artist called Liz.
So The weekend has arrived and I finally met the lovely Liz, along with some lovely other course participants. We have learnt about the pit falls and challenges of splashback installations, kitchen regulations, dealing with commissions, how to design a splashback and finally……the most exciting bit, making it….on a big scale!
Although I have cut glass more times than I can count, when it came to cutting such large sheets of glass I felt like a beginner!!! But there is something about the sound of that score on glass that gives me little butterflies! Will it cut straight or will it be an expensive break!!
Luckily the glass gods were with me and I managed to get straight cuts in my glass each time!
I loved turning my design into reality!!
This is it so far! Today we finish the design and talk about firing schedules, how to avoid huge bubbles and how to fire in one piece without cracking it!!
I will upload a photo of the finished item when it has been fired and installed!
